When Should I Choose My Wedding Shoes?
There is not one wedding gown designer, wedding boutique owner, or bridal seamstress out there that wouldn’t tell you to make sure to have your wedding shoes before your first dress fitting.
As a wedding shoe expert who sells shoes to hundreds of brides each week, it is very important to have your shoes at your first fitting to make sure the length of your dress is measured correctly to that exact pair. In fact, I’ve been told by multiple brides that some seamstresses will actually refuse to measure the hem of a wedding gown if the EXACT shoes are not worn at the fitting.
The issue is that each heel is measured differently by each manufacturer or designer. Some heel heights are measured from the back of the heel, and some on the inside of the heel so telling your seamstress the heel height rather than wearing the exact heel height could be a huge mistake! In addition, platforms are incredibly popular right now and the platform is often not taken into account in the heel height measurement.
At My Glass Slipper, we recommend you select three or four bridal shoe styles that you like and take them all to your first dress fitting. At that time, you can make sure the color matches your dress and decide which heel height is right for you! Continue reading
